ASME hosts second India Oil and Gas Pipeline Conference

The second India Oil and Gas Pipeline Conference opened yesterday at the Leela Kempinski Gurgaon.  Over 150 engineers attended the conference from eight countries including Australia, Canada, Germany, Singapore, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United States and United Kingdom.

In ten tracks over three days, the 2009 ASME India Oil and Gas Pipeline Conference covered pipeline design, coating technology, life-cycle management, and operations and maintenance. 

The Regulatory Panel today discussed the role of current Indian, U.S. and Canadian regulations and standards on business operations and growth in the local market.With Sh B S Negi,Member PNGRB shared his views on the new regulatory developments affecting the Indian pipeline industry.

 

PNGRB vide its Gazette notification no.GSR 612(E) 27th August 2008 has notified ASME B 31.8 as the baseline standard for City Gas Distribution and Transmission Pipelines (draft under public review),

At the plenary session on March 17, 2009 representatives from the US, Canada and India provided insight into several core areas such as the development of new international standards and the harmonization of requirements across boundaries as well as education and knowledge transfer to enhance workforce development among the engineering community in India.

Speakers included senior executives from the international and Indian pipeline communities including: Mr. Ken Paulson, National Energy Board, Canada;  Mr. S. K. Manglik, former Chairman of ONGC; Mr. P. K. Chakarborti Director Pipelines Indian Oil Corporation; Mr. E. S. Ranganathan from GAIL; Mr Ashwani Soni, Head Pipelines Engineers India; and Mr. Thomas Loughlin, Executive Director of ASME.

The conference was attended by delegates from Indian Oil, GAIL, ONGC, EIL, Gujarat Gas, L&T Gulf, HMEL, GSPC, ESSAR, PSL. and with international participation from TDW, 3M, DENSO, LINCOLN ELECTRIC.

The closing remarks were shared by Sh B S Negi Member PNGRB ,Ken Paulson , The ASME Conference Chair from National Energy Board,Canada and Mr Ashwani Soni Head Pipelines from Engineers India Limited.
