Announcement Corporate
  • Beckons Industries is involved in the processing of microalgae farms which provides with an alternative source of energy.
  • Its revenue stood at Rs. 4401.8 lacs & PAT jumped to Rs. 408.05 lacs for the year ended, March 31, 2010

Beckons Industries Limited, (BSE: 531937) a torch bearer in developing Algae technology  for producing an alternate source of Energy,  declared a total revenue of Rs. 4401.18 lacs for the fourth quarter ended, March, 31, 2010

The EPS for fourth quarter ended stood at Rs. 5.72 and at the same time the PAT jumped to Rs. 408.05 Lacs.

Announcing the results, Mr. Gurmeet Bhatia, MD of Beckons Industries Ltd. said, “India has only 0.5% of proven World’s Crude Oil Reserve while we consume 3.2% of world’s crude oil production. If India does not import and does not increase its consumption of crude oil products (Diesel and Petrol), our Crude oil reserve will last only for 6 years, while the comparable figure for World’s reserve is 42 Years.  With this type of revenue line up Beckons can look forward to fasten its R&D activities.”

Algae energy technology breakthrough brings new era of growth to beckons
India could be the threshold of emerging a winner in the global search for a cost effective environment friendly alternate fuel from Algae with a Punjab based Company; Beckons Industries Limited achieving a technological breakthrough in producing algal biomass as feedstock for Biodiesel.

Beckons has successfully developed the technology and has validated the underlying scientific and engineering principals to produce cheap feedstock for producing Biodiesel which is an alternate of crude oil.  Company is now at pre-commercial stage and they are hopeful that technology will pass required test for commercial exploitation. The management spotted a big business opportunity in the energy sector as India imports crude oil to the tune of 600 million bbl per year which is almost 80% of the domestic demand.

About Beckons Industries Ltd.
Beckons has been engaged into the development activities of algae growing technology for the last few years and has made a milestone in the journey of its success by producing algae in closed photobioreactors (PBR) made from locally available inexpensive material and got itself into one of the few companies of the world to enter into the most suitable technology which has been proved as one of the suitable feedstock for Biodiesel and Bio jet fuel.

This significant new development from Beckons Industries hold promising prospectus of availability of carbon neutral energy for transport, agriculture and aviation sectors. With Biodiesel from Algae oil, these sectors can reduce their dependency gradually to the conventional high cost crude oil for fueling their operations.

About Algae:
Algae are green thing that convert sunlight, Carbon dioxide and NOx (from fuel gases emission) into biomass which is a source of oil, protein and carbohydrates.  India is fortunate to grow algae as it flourishes economically in tropical areas which have abundance of sunlight and high temperature. Algae have the same photosynthetic ability as plants to convert sunshine into chemical energy. This chemical energy is in the form of oils very similar to common vegetable oil. These oils can be used to produce Biodiesel. Their productivity could be 1000 times or more than crops like soybeans.

Algae production facilities using PBR are closed system and do not require soil nutrients for growth, use 99% less water than conventional agriculture, and can be located on non-agricultural land. Their small size and modular nature makes them ideal for a large-scale in a phased manner. PBR are similar to Fermentors in which energy source is light energy instead of carbohydrates in the media.

Carbon dioxide, a by product and pollutant of Thermal Power Plants, Cement or fertilizer plants, is a nutrient for the Algae. Algae production facilities can thus be fed on exhaust gases as nutrients from above sources to significantly increase productivity and clean up the environment.
