Bharat Forge receives National Award for Best HR Practices 2009

Bharat Forge, the flagship company of the USD 2.4 billion Kalyani Group and a global leader in manufacturing & metal forming was honored with the National Award for ‘Best HR Practices 2009’ at the Annual National Conference of the National Institute of Personnel Management at Kolkota for its excellence in HR practices.

The award accorded by the National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM) included participation from several industries including the public & private sector and had four stages of evaluation. The NIPM evaluation criterion included: application submission, on site evaluation by an eminent jury, presentation by the shortlisted finalists and an evaluation of the short listed companies. The evaluation was based on criteria such as the Overall Organization & HR Strategy, Alignment of HR strategies with business goals, HR Plan V/S Achievements of last 3 yrs, Infrastructure Development of HR, Development of Employees and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

 

This year’s format saw 10 large corporates, the likes of Tata Steel, ONGC, HPCL, Hindalco, Gail, Vizak Steel, Swaraj Engines, MRPL, Shree Cement and Bharat Forge vying for the coveted award in the final round.  Dr Santosh Bhave, Head of Human Resources at Bharat Forge received the award at the hands of Mr Kumar Mangalam Birla at a grand ceremony organized at the ITC Sonar, Kolkata on 18th February 2010.

Accepting the award, Dr Bhave said: “We are most honored to receive this prestigious National Award. We firmly believe that our employees are one of our greatest assets and must be continuously nurtured and developed for us to retain our pre-eminent position as the world’s leading forging company. It is through their commitment and dedication that Bharat Forge is today well on its path to becoming a leading engineering conglomerate”.

Bharat Forge has undertaken several training & development initiatives for the overall growth of its workforce. Significant amongst which has been the MoU it has signed with BITS Pilani in March 2004. The other unique training initiatives at Bharat Forge include a Post Graduation in Manufacturing Management in collaboration with University of Warwick, U. K.; M. Tech. programme suiting our requirements with IIT Mumbai with a view to promote Research & Devlopment; Focused training to fresh ITIs through Apprentice Shop and on-going Talent Pipeline Program for fresh engineers from colleges at Rural areas.

A panel of judges headed by Mr. N. S. Rajan, Partner & Head, Ernst & Young, Dr.  C.S. Venkat Ratnam, Director, International Management centre, Delhi considered each company’s performance based on a comprehensive set of criteria. The panel evaluated detailed information on the HR practices and systems of participating companies.
