Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP), the flagship unit of Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has received the Prime Minister’s Trophy for emerging as the best performing steel plant in the country for the years 2006-07 and 2007-08 in New Delhi on 15 February 2010. Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh handed over the Trophy for Best Integrated Steel Plant in the country to SAIL Chairman Mr. S.K. Roongta and BSP Managing Director Mr. R. Ramaraju in the presence of Union Minister for Steel Mr. Virbhadra Singh, Minister of State for Steel Mr. A. Sai Pratap, Secretary (Steel) Mr. Atul Chaturvedi and Special Secretary Mr. B.S. Meena.
“I sincerely hope that our steel industry will live up to the expectations of our people. My very best wishes for the growth of this very vital industry of our economy, ” said Dr. Singh on the occasion.
With this, BSP has the unparalleled distinction of being the only steel plant in the country, public or private, to have been honoured with the prestigious PM’s trophy 9 out of the 16 times it has been awarded since it was instituted. BSP was chosen as the winner for both years for its excellence in spheres of production, techno-economics, R&D efforts and product development, human resource management, employee motivation, environment management, quality as well as execution of its corporate social responsibilities. Bhilai has earlier won the Trophy for the years 1992-93, 93-94, 95-96, 96-97, 97-98, 2003-04 and 2004-05.
