Biotech Companies Recognized at the Awards Nite at Bangalore Bio 2009

The awards night of the Bangalore Bio 2009 started in a unique way with the felicitation of Nobel Laureate Dr. Richard J. Roberts by Shri Ashok Kumar C. Manoli, Principal Secretary, Dept. of IT, BT and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka  with Karnataka traditional Mysore Peta, Indian Traditional Shawl and Garlanding.

While felicitating Dr. Richard, Shri. Monoli said, “This unique start shows the commitment to honour Excellence in Biotechnology starting with Noble Laureate.”

During the Awards Nite, BIO EXCELLENCE Awards were given to participants under HEALTH CARE, AGRI-BIO, INDUSTRIAL BIO-TECH and BIOTECH SERVICES SECTOR. Poster and Exhibitor awards were also given at the award ceremony.  In this year’s awards, there is no first or second prize in any of the segment.

 

Mr. Shrikumar Suryanarayan, Director General, ABLE said, “In this year’s selection criteria, weightage is given to thought leadership in addition to tangible achievements and results.”

The BIO EXCELLENCE AWARD under the HEALTH CARE SECTORE was JOINTLY SHARED BY Serum Institute of India & Biocon Ltd. Dr. S.D. Ravetkar, Senior Director from Serum Institute of India received the award from Mr. Shrikumar Suryanarayan, Director General, ABLE & Ms. Paula Sengupta, Head Corporate Communications, Biocon received the award from Shri Ashok Kumar C. Manoli, Principal Secretary, Dept. of IT, BT and S&T, Govt. of Karnataka.

The BIO EXCELLENCE AWARD under the AGRI-BIO SECTOR was awarded to Mahyco. Mr. Bharat Shaw, Lead Biotechnology, MAHYCO received the award from Mr. Jabbar Dhankwala, I.A.S., Secretary, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh, Department of Biodiversity and Biotechnology

The BIO EXCELLENCE AWARD under the INDUSTRIAL BIO-TECH SECTOR went to Praj Industries. Mr. Ravikumar Rao, COE Leader – Process, Praj Industries received the award from Mr. Aravind Jannu, IAS, Director, Directorate of IT & BT, Govt. of Karnataka & MD – KBITS.

The BIO EXCELLENCE AWARD under the BIOTECH SERVICES SECTOR went to Syngene International. Dr. Nita Roy, Head Biology Group, Syngene received the award from Dr. Sharat Chandra

The Poster Session – a popular section Bangalore Bio 2009, received many creative and sensible posters from upcoming innovators and scientists. The best poster awards were Ms. Indumathi Somasundaram from Lifeline Multispeciality Hospitality, Mr. Darshan S. C. from Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB) and Ms. D. Bindu Madhuri from For U Biosciences / IMMA Labs.

The Exhibitor Award under Interactive and best management went to Eppendorf India Limited ILS Bioservices and Mayar Biotech SEZ

The Exhibitor Award under BIO Content and Information went to Bangalore Genei (India) Pvt. Ltd, Bio-rad Laboratories India Pvt. Ltd., Department of Atomic Energy and Zeba Lab Furniture Pvt. LtD

The Exhibitor Award under Design and Innovation went to India & Germany: Strategic Partners for Innovation, Merck Limited, India and MW Zander Facility Engineering (India) Pvt. Ltd.

Special recognition were give to Special Recognition to KBITS & KSRSAC for Poster Pavilion and Xcelris Labs Ltd for Upcoming Genomic Solution Company.
