Saffronart, India’s leading auction house for art and collectibles, announces its first ‘Gentleman’sSale’, an online auction featuring a selection of luxury and limited edition products for the discerning gentleman. This sale features 70 lots with a total lower and higher estimate of 1.3 crore to Rs. 1.6 crore (US$ 270,000 to US$ 330,000). The 24-hour auction will take place online at www.saffronart.com, beginning April 17, 2012 at 9:00 pm (India Time).
Associated with creativity, exclusivity, fine craftsmanship, high quality and innovation, each of the lots included in this auction makes an ideal statement piece or gift. The sale includes highly desirable and sought after objects such as luxury writing instruments, important watches, a classic motorcar and jewelled accessories. With an impressive catalogue in a wide price range from INR 5,000 (US$100) to INR 20 lakhs (US$ 40,000), this auction broadens Saffronart’s online platform to a range of new collectibles, and addresses the gap in the market in India for these pieces.
The 1961 Pontiac Laurentian is a classic piece of 1960s Americana – but in a hard to find right-hand drive model. Attractively priced at Rs. 10,00,000 (US$20,000) to Rs. 15,00,000 (US$30,000), the car is available in excellent condition with original manufacturer parts and with all its bells and whistles intact. The Pontiac Laurentian comes with a 3.1 litre, straight 6 cylinder engine, 3-speed manual transmission with all mechanical parts and components in working order, an odometer reading of a little over 50,000 miles and five brand new Whitewall tyres. The car will be available for viewing at designated times at Saffronart’s Delhi gallery at the Oberoi Hotel.
The auction features luxury writing instruments from Montblanc’s Patrons of Art and Writers series, several pairs of period cufflinks, colonial silverware crafted by the famous Oomersi Mawji of Bhuj, and designer accessories from brands like Hermes, Tiffany & Co., and Asprey. The auction also includes a selection of significant men’s wristwatches such as a limited edition Omega ‘Speedmaster Gemini 4’, Rolex watches including a ‘Padellone’ Self-Winding Triple Calendar Moonphase Wristwatch, and others from Patek Philippe and Vacheron & Constantin.
Co-founder and CEO of Saffronart, Dinesh Vazirani said, “This is the first time Saffronart is auctioning a dedicated collection of high quality accessories and products of interest to men. The Indian market for collectibles is in its infancy yet growing rapidly, and this sale is aimed at tapping the interest for such products. Our first Gentleman’s Sale offers collectors a range of desirable objects for collecting and gifting – from a classic motorcar to pairs of period enameled cufflinks – in a range of prices from INR 5,000 (US$ 100) to INR 20 lakhs (US$ 40,000)”.
Through its pioneering online auction platform, Saffronart has made all forms of art and collectibles accessible to a broad base of connoisseurs around the globe.
