DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, is the Official Logistics Partner of the Mumbai Marathon for the ninth year in a row. For the marathon, which is scheduled on 15 January 2012, DHL is responsible for the handling of shipment imports of the timing chips and sports equipment and uniforms for the athletes and heavy weight broadcast equipment from the UK, Netherlands, Japan and Indonesia. This year, DHL helped import over seven tons of shipments for the final race day.

On-the-ground logistics facilitating the movement of event goods like food and medicines within the city for a whole week including the race day is also managed end-to-end by DHL with almost 100 vehicles and support staff dedicated towards these efforts. Besides the logistics support, it is also a huge employee engagement activity for DHL and this year, 2,000 employees with their family members will be running for the dream run and half marathon.

“The Mumbai Marathon has today become an international event and put India on the world map for distance running. An event of this scale and spirit requires precision logistics management and DHL is strongly positioned and ensures delivery at the right place and time,” says Mr. Malcolm Monterio, SVP and Area Director, South Asia, DHL Express. “We are proud to be associated with the Mumbai Marathon since its inception in 2004 as it reflects our commitment to speed and excellence, which are also DHL’s core brand values,” adds Malcolm.

During the marathon, DHL will also be lending its support to the Magic Bus, a Mumbai-based NGO that promotes development through sports education and Magic Bus kids will be running the dream run along with DHL employees. DHL will also host a series of employee engagement initiatives at the DHL Marquee at the race venue whereby employees and their families are able to interact and enjoy the festivities.
