GAIL second quarter PAT up 79%, Turnover up 35%

GAIL (India) Limited registered a turnover (net of Excise Duty) of Rs. 6129 crore in the second quarter of FY 2008-09, a 35 percent increase over the turnover in the corresponding period during the last financial year. GAIL’s Net Profit for the second quarter of the FY 2008-09 increased by 79 percent to Rs. 1023 crore against Rs. 573 crore in the corresponding period previous year. The Gross Margin increased by 57 percent to Rs. 1660 crore in the second quarter of the current financial year against Rs. 1059 crore in the corresponding period last year. The Profit Before Tax increased by 69 percent to Rs. 1503 crore in the second quarter of the current financial year against Rs. 890 crore in the corresponding period last year.

 

Segment-wise Revenue
During the second quarter of the current financial year, revenues from Natural Gas Transmission business have increased by 9 percent to Rs. 621 crore as against Rs. 568 crore in the corresponding period of previous year. The revenues from Petrochemicals business have decrease by 2 percent to Rs. 629 crore as against Rs. 640 crore in the corresponding period of last year. The revenues from LPG and Liquid Hydrocarbons business during the second quarter of the current financial year have increased by 55 percent to Rs. 1090 crore as against Rs. 703 crore in the corresponding period of last year. The revenues from Natural Gas Trading during the second quarter of the current financial year increased by 40 percent to Rs. 4495 crore as against Rs. 3209 crore in the corresponding period of the last year. The revenues from LPG transmission during the second quarter of the current financial year have increased by 1 percent to Rs. 91 crore as against Rs. 90 crore in the corresponding period last year.

This improved results is despite of sharing the Higher LPG subsidy (Provisional) by Rs.141 Cr during quarter ended on 30.09.2008 as compared to previous quarter.

Physical Performance
During the second quarter of the current financial year, the Natural Gas sales were 79.06 MMSCMD, up 12 percent from 70.38 MMSCMD during the corresponding period last year. During the second quarter for FY 2008-09, the petrochemical production was 104 TMT, up 7 percent from 97 TMT in the corresponding period last year. The polymer sales during the second quarter of the current financial year were 76 TMT, decrease by 21 percent from 96 TMT in the corresponding period in the previous year. The LPG transmission during the second quarter of the current financial year was 650 TMT, up by 2 percent from 640 TMT during the corresponding period in the previous financial year. The LPG and Other Liquid Hydrocarbon production during the second quarter of the current financial year was 360 TMT, up 2 percent from 354 TMT in the corresponding period last year. The LPG and Other Liquid Hydrocarbon sales during the second quarter of the current financial year were 361 TMT, up 1 percent from 357 TMT in the corresponding period last year. The Natural Gas transmission during the second quarter of the current financial year was 81.69 MMSCMD, decrease by 1 percent from 82.21 MMSCMD in the corresponding period last year.

Half Yearly Results
GAIL (India) Limited registered a turnover (net of Excise Duty) of Rs. 11,860 crore in the first half of FY 2008-09, a 35 percent increase over the turnover in the corresponding period during the last financial year. GAIL’s Net Profit after tax for the first half of the FY 2008-09 increased by 53 percent to Rs. 1920 crore against Rs. 1258 crore in the corresponding period previous year. The Gross Margin increased by 45 percent to Rs. 3175 crore in the first half of the current financial year against Rs. 2189 crore in the corresponding period last year. The Profit Before Tax increased by 54 percent to Rs. 2855 crore in the second quarter of the current financial year against Rs. 1859 crore in the corresponding period last year.

Segment-wise Revenue
During the first half of the current financial year, revenues from Natural Gas Transmission have increased by 12 percent to Rs. 1242 crore as against Rs. 1108 crore in the corresponding period the previous year. The revenues from Petrochemicals business have increased by 9 percent to Rs. 1430 crore as against Rs. 1307 crore in the corresponding period of last year. The revenues from LPG and Liquid Hydrocarbons business during the first half of the current financial year have increased by 41 percent to Rs. 1890 crore as against Rs. 1344 crore in the corresponding period of last year. The revenues from LPG transmission during the first half of the current financial year have decreased by 3 percent to Rs. 176 crore as against Rs. 182 crore in the corresponding period last year. The revenues from Natural Gas Trading during the first half of the current financial year increased by 40 percent to Rs. 8615 crore as against Rs. 6157 crore in the corresponding period of the last year.

Physical Performance
The Natural Gas transmission during the first half of the current financial year was 83.08 MMSCMD, up 3 percent from 80.46 MMSCMD in the corresponding period last year. The Natural Gas sales during the first half of FY 2008-09 were 79.43 MMSCMD, up 15 percent from 69.25 MMSCMD during the corresponding period last year. During the first half of the current financial year, petrochemical production was 209 TMT, up 5 percent against 200 TMT in the corresponding period last year. The petrochemical sales during the first half of the current financial year were 179 TMT, decrease by 11 percent from 201 TMT in the corresponding period in the previous year. The LPG transmission during the first half of the current financial year was 1,266 TMT, up by 1 percent from 1,261 TMT during the corresponding period in the previous financial year. The LPG and Other Liquid Hydrocarbon production during the first half of the current financial year were 702 TMT, decrease by 1 percent from 709 TMT in the corresponding period last year. The LPG and Other Liquid Hydrocarbon sales during the first half of the current financial year were 707 TMT, up 1 percent from 711 TMT in the corresponding period last year.
