The second edition of Canvironment week 2011, the environment initiatives for metal packaging sector now officially kicked off on a global platform with the ringing of the Sustainability Bell at Metpack Germany. Canvironment Week 2011 aims to promote Sustainability and environment friendliness of cans across markets. Almost 8 countries across the globe have pledged to be part of the forum through Canvironment Week 2011. The Canvironment Week 2011 launch received a tremendous felicitation from the industry leaders and can makers at the official kick off ceremony in Germany. Mr. Atit Bhatia, who is the President of the Canvironment Week gave a presentation on Canvironment project and also highlighted the achievements of Canvironment Week 2010.
Mr Frank Thorwrith Chairman & CEO Messe Essen and Mr Wolfgang Niemsch Co Chairman METPACK Committee prior to ringing the sustainability bell surprised the audience with a special presentation of an Award for the first time in the history of Metpack, that recognizes the significant efforts of Hindustan Tin Works Ltd to initiate and promote Canvironment Week as a global sustainability platform for the benefit of the environment and the metal packaging industry.
Canvironment Week President and Sr. Vice President Hindustan Tin Works Ltd Atit Bhatia said “We are extremely excited and honored by the grand turnaround at the kickoff of Canvironment Week 2011, it was a House Full. Canvironment Week initiated by Hindustan Tin Work’s is the first global Metal Can Sustainability Movement to preserve the environment through decisive proactive global initiatives. This is the second year of Canvironment week promoted by HTWL to sensitize the public about sustainability and environment friendliness of can products across markets. Canvironment Week was launched last year where a number of activities were executed promoting sustainability through a global campaign. The Grand Finale was successfully performed on 17th November, 2010 in New Delhi, India coordinating with 200th birthday of the Can and a tribute to Nicholas Appert.
A similar launch is planned at InterPack in Messe Dusseldorf Germany on 15th May 2011 at the Metal Packaging Forum at 1530 hrs.
