To provide integrated services management and green data center; help achieve energy efficiency to the tune of 17%.
IBM (NYSE: IBM) today announced that it has signed an IT services deal with the Indian subsidiary of Perfetti Van Melle, world’s third largest confectionary group. As part of this deal, IBM would design and build a green data center, provide the networking infrastructure for the data center as well as offer end-to-end facilities management services to the client. Through this engagement, IBM aims to provide PVM India a robust infrastructure management, supporting its ambitious growth plans for the country. IBM will also help PVM India make its IT operations green by aiming to achieve energy efficiency to the tune of 17%.
PVM India, which manufactures and markets popular confectionary brands like Center Fresh, Alpenliebe, Mentos, Chlor-Mint and Happydent, among others, operates one of the largest distribution networks and is among the fastest growing FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods) companies in India. In order to support its increasingly complex IT operations and to keep its operational costs low at the same time, PVM India chose IBM above other major competitors for setting up a 1,000 sq ft green data center as well providing network management using innovative tools like NOC-Inside (Network Operations Center-Inside).
Commenting on the relationship with IBM, R. Ramesh Chari, Chief Financial Officer, Perfetti Van Melle India said, “Perfetti Van Melle is fully committed towards making its IT infrastructure Green and putting in place a Green data center was only logical. At PVM India, we have been striving hard to reduce cost, bring in operational efficiencies and provide quality services to both internal and external customers by leveraging various IT enablers. To achieve these objectives, we have partnered with IBM, which has set up an energy-efficient data center as per our organizational requirement. Our partnership with IBM is to further explore and implement some of their best practices and technology for mutual benefits.”
Neeraj Sharma, Director – Integrated Technology Services, IBM India/South Asia said, “IBM’s expertise in helping clients bring down their operational costs is a very significant value proposition that they are attracted to. IBM engaged with PVM India to understand their unique business requirements and provided best-in-class solutions to meet their aspirations of making their operations Green and highly energy-efficient. We are looking forward to a long-term and strategic engagement.”
Through this agreement, signed earlier in the year, IBM will manage desktops and network spanning multiple locations. Also, by leveraging its unique NOC-Inside solution, IBM would be able to make the monitoring and management of PVM India’s IT infrastructure extremely easy and process-centric.
Talking about the critical role played by IT in PVM India’s operations and the company’s decision to select IBM, Basant Chaturvedi, Chief Information Officer, Perfetti Van Melle India said, “PVM India’s investments in Green technologies has resulted in both operational efficiency and cost savings. By leveraging virtualization, enhanced communication and collaboration tools and migrating to energy-efficient computing environment, PVM India has already saved significant amount this year. We have now partnered with IBM which has vast global experience to manage a complex IT environment like ours. We are looking forward to IBM’s expertise in not only making our IT infrastructure even greener but also to make it world-class.”
