India post sports a new logo
NEW AGE POST OFFICES BEING SET UP UNDER 'PROJECT ARROW'

The winds of change have begun to blow at the two centuries old Indian Postal service as well, which today acquired a swank new logo, in tune with changing times. The Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology Mr. A Raja unveiled the new logo of India Post in the presence of Minister of State Mr. Jyotiraditya Scindia at a function in New Delhi.
Along with the new look come a slew of new services. Addressing a press conference in Mumbai today, the Chief Post Master General, Maharashtra & Goa, Mr. Manjit Singh Bali, said the new logo combines modernity with continuity. Three wing like yellow lines on a rectangle of post office red, are inspired by the fact that India Post carries emotions across physical distance. At first glance it is an envelope and at the next glance it is a bird in flight, unhindered and unrestricted.
“This new logo reflects a message of India Post as a vibrant, professional organization not only for common man but also for business and corporate houses” said Mr. Bali. “The need for change in the logo developed in 1995 by IIT, Mumbai was felt due to emerging transformation both in the Indian economy as well as in the profile of India Post “ he added. The new logo has been designed by the noted advertising firm – O&M. Within a fortnight the new logo will appear on post offices, post boxes and delivery vans etc, in all major cities.
Along with the change of Logo, Department of Posts has also launched a series of fully upgraded and completely new look Post Offices in the services of the rural people. Called “Project Arrow”, the scheme aims to re-vitalize the post office network and enable it to play a larger role in socio-economic transformation of the country. These post offices are being given a thorough make over both in terms of “physical look and feel” and upgrading service delivery through IT -enabled procedures. By the end of the current year, 500 such Post Offices will be operational in the country.
The post offices in rural areas will henceforth be a single window facility for banking, money remittance, transmission and delivery of information. Besides providing traditional services in a modern, more efficient and technology based mode, the post offices will also form an indispensable part of all social and civic initiatives such as National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme and National Old Age Pension Scheme.
