India to host the 20th International World Wide Web Conference

The International Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore in cooperation with the International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad and the Institute of Information Technology, Bombay announces WWW2011, the 20TH International World Wide Web Conference to be held at the Hyderabad International Convention Center (HICC), from 28th March - 1st April, 2011.

WWW Conference series is one of the most prestigious events in the technical world. WWW aims to provide the world a premier forum for discussion and debate about the evolution of the Web, the standardization of its associated technologies, and the impact of those technologies on society and culture. The conference is the latest in the series of international events that began in Geneva, the birthplace of the Web, in 1994. The location of the conference since rotates among North America, Europe, and Asia. In 2001 the conference designator changed from a number (1 through 10) to the year it is held; i.e., WWW11 became known as WWW2002, and so on. The

The International Institute of Information Technology - Bangalore, a Deemed University, popularly known as IIIT-B, was established in 1999 with a vision to contribute to the IT world by focusing on education and research, entrepreneurship and innovation. The Institute is a registered not-for-profit society funded jointly by the Government of Karnataka and the IT industry. Since its inception, IIIT-B, with its unique model of education, research, and industry interaction, has grown in stature to become an institution of considerable repute in academic as well as corporate circles

Prof. S Sadagopan is the founder Director of the IIIT-B has been personally working on this from 2005. He has taught at two premier educational Institutes in India, namely, the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, (IITK) during 1980 - 1995 and the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, (IIMB) during 1995-1999. He obtained his undergraduate engineering degree from Madras University and his Master's and Doctoral degrees from Purdue University, USA. He is a Fellow of the IEE, UK, Computer Society of India and the Institution of Engineers (India).

Indian Institute of Technology- Bombay, set up by an Act of Parliament, was established in 1958, at Powai, a northern suburb of Mumbai. Today the Institute is recognized as one of the centres of academic excellence in the country. Over the years, there has been dynamic progress at IIT Bombay in all academic and research activities, and a parallel improvement in facilities and infrastructure, to keep it on par with the best institutions in the world. Institutes in positions of excellence grow with time. The ideas and ideals on which such institutes are built evolve and change with national aspirations, national perspectives, and trends world - wide. IIT Bombay, too, is one such institution.

Prof. Krithi Ramamritham, whose research explores timeliness and consistency issues in computer systems, in particular, databases, real-time systems, and distributed applications. During the last few years he has been interested in the use of Information and Communication Technologies for creating tools aimed at socio-economic development. 

The event with the theme of “Web for All” will witness the largest conglomerate of Web Researchers with keynote speakers like Sir Tim Berners-Lee, inventor of the World Wide Web and Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, President of India, serving from 2002 to 2007 focusing on the future of Web technologies.

WWW 2011, Hyderabad, India is the most important international event of the year dedicated to the World Wide Web. This event will promote an all-inclusive aspect of the web by highlighting the need for expanding the horizons of the Web and reaching out to the very wide, fast-growing community of people who have to deal with the World Wide Web, either as developers or users. Almost 2000 delegates from business, technical, academic and media circles are expected to attend the conference.

Speaking at the event Prof S. Sadagopan expressed his views:
We are convinced that bringing this premier conference to India will energize the research community and take India to a higher level in terms of academics prestige and global leadership. This conference will not only help academics and research community in India (both national and international players in India) but the Government, Industry and the larger civil society as well.

Delegates to the conference will include key researchers, innovators, decision-makers, technologists, businesses, and standard bodies working to shape the Web. The event will also be a unique opportunity for the world's media and analysts to meet the leading players from all over the world.

The conference will feature a range of presentations on world-class research, as well as stimulating talks, workshops, tutorials, panels, and a separate Developers' Track. Spread over 5 days the conference is known to attract around 1000 attendees every year.
