On World Environment Day, IndusInd Bank along with Bombay Chamber of Commerce & Industry (BCCI) and Centre for Environment Research & Education (CERE) carried out an outdoor initiative of “Clean Beach drive” in Mumbai. More than 250 IndusIndians participated in the clean beach drive. It is one of the initiatives taken under the “Hum aur Hariyali” campaign, which forms a part of the Green Banking project of the Bank. The main objective of this campaign is to increase awareness of environmental issues among the employees of the Bank and its customers.
World Environment Day commemorated each year on June 5, is one of the principal vehicles through which the United Nations stimulates world-wide awareness of the environment and enhances national attention and action. The theme for World Environment Day 2009 is “Your Planet Needs You-Unite to combat climate change.”
Speaking on the occasion Mr. Romesh Sobti, Managing Director and CEO, IndusInd Bank, said “. Integration of environmental, economic and social perspectives in business strategies have become a need of the hour for every organisation to succeed . We are mobilising our workforce to respond to our goals and initiatives relating to all three of these .”
Through the said campaign, the Bank has a taken a number of steps like Thin Computing, E Archiving and retrieval, e-statements, Fax server project etc to minimize resource usage and wastage.
Ms..Manju Sood, Executive Director, BCCI said, “The nature gives humanity more than what it requires. Do not take the environment for granted for its fury will be devastating. Help, Protect and Care should be our motto. BCCI has pleasure in joining with IndusInd Bank and CERE in this World Environment Day Celebrations.”
Dr. Rashneh N. Pardiwala, Founder & Director of CERE said “We have long defiled nature and its time to start the healing process by retracing our steps towards sustainability.” The Centre for Environmental Research and Education (CERE) is a Mumbai-based non-profit organization that works to promote environmental sustainability through wide-spread awareness, education and advocacy. CERE had also arranged for a film show “In the Pink” reflecting the effect of pollution on life.
