CII had organised a one day “Workshop on Emerging Trends of IT in Healthcare” on 19th January in Bangalore, Karnataka.
Mr T Parabrahman, Chairman, CII Karnataka & Managing Director, Kirloskar Toyoda Textile Machinery Pvt Ltd delivered the Welcome Address where he said “e-health is an emerging field in the intersection of medical informatics, public health and business, referring to health services and information delivered or enhanced through the Internet and related technologies. In a broader sense, the term characterizes not only a technical development, but also a state-of-mind, a way of thinking, an attitude, and a commitment for networked, global thinking, to improve health care locally, regionally, and worldwide by using information and communication technology. Integration of E-health data is now a necessity in which IT plays a vital role.”
Mr Atul Bengeri, Industry Manager – Digital Health, Intel Technologies delivered the Theme Address where he said that the role of IT in Healthcare is very critical and important. He also thanked the participants and requested them to make optimal use of the workshop.
Mr. Suryanarayanan B, Director, South, Intel Technologies delivered the Special Address where he said that “Intel focuses on Providing better quality of care through the use of technology, to implement Mobile Point of Care (MPOC), Computerized Physician Order Entry (CPOE), Electronic Medical Records (EMR) in hospitals, to use models such as Telehealth, tele diagnostics to reach out to the underserved in the rural segment.”
Dr A R Aruna, Director, Health & Family Welfare Services, Government of Karnataka, delivered the Special Address spoke on the trends in healthcare in Karnataka. She said that Karnataka has seen immense growth in terms of Healthcare.
Mr Ashok Kumar C Manoli, IAS, Hon’ble Secretary, Department of IT, BT, Science & Technology, Government of Karnataka delivered the Inaugural Address said “Karnataka has been pioneer in implementing Telemedicine solution way back in 2001 in public health. This solution implemented at all district hospitals, caters to the need of the rural people. Taking this initiative further, working with IT leaders like Intel, the Telehealth project initiated at a PHC in Davangere district – Angodu village, there has been life saving instances, one of them being that of 11 month old baby girl who was identified with having a hole in the heart. The baby girl was immediately sent to Narayana Hrudayalaya and operated upon. The private players should partner with the Govt. in PPP models to cater to the growing needs of healthcare delivery system. IT/ICT can play a pivotal role in bridging the gap between demand and supply in the healthcare space. State level medical and paramedical staff should be given training in basic IT application.”
Mr Aroon Raman, Vice Chairman, CII Karnataka & Managing Director, Raman Fibrescience Ltd proposed the Closing remarks said “IT in India and abroad is growing in leaps and bounds. One of the industries that can significantly benefit from this rapid growth of IT is the healthcare industry in India. The day’s workshop seeks to demonstrate the IT requirements of various set up’s and the application of the latest software’s such as HMS/ EMR systems, smartcard, RFID and several other options in healthcare IT. I am sure today’s workshop will be the beginning for many of us giving us direction on how we could apply the same to our set up’s.
