Jindal Power appoints R. S. Sharma as Managing Director

A former CMD of NTPC, Mr. R. S. Sharma’s appointment to further push company’s ambitious growth strategy

In order to further strengthen its management team, Jindal Power Limited (JPL), a company promoted by Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) today announced that it has appointed Mr. R. S. Sharma as the company’s Managing Director.

With a rich experience of 38 years, Mr. Sharma brings with him multi-functional knowledge in the areas of Operation, Project Implementation, Corporate Planning, Commercial and Regulatory Affairs due to his long association with the power sector. He has spent nearly 30 years of his career in the various project sites. He has worked in various capacities in various projects of NTPC and headed number of projects. His appointment will enhance the business development, expansion plans as well as ambitious growth of JPL.

 

Mr. R. S. Sharma was the CMD of NTPC, the largest power producer in the country and a Maharatrna PSU company. He spearheaded many ambitious projects of NTPC before superannuating on August 31, 2010. Before serving as the CMD of NTPC, Mr. Sharma had served as Director (Commercial) NTPC and was also involved in guiding activities of the Business Development Group in the company. He also formulated long term corporate plans for NTPC. He was instrumental in the preparation of guidelines for setting up the power exchange in India.

A 1971 batch Mechanical Engineering Graduate from Government Engineering College, Rewa, Madhya Pradesh, Mr. Sharma started his career with the Madhya Pradesh State Electricity Board. He joined NTPC in early February, 1980.

He has authored a number of Technical Papers on various subjects of Power Plant Operation & Maintenance.

With a vision to establish its presence in other forms of power generation such as gas, hydro, wind, nuclear and solar power (with special focus being on hydro and other forms of environment friendly renewable energy sources), JPL is fast moving ahead on the path towards growth, involvement and commitment in a bid to become a leading full-service integrated power company in the Indian power sector.
