‘Koshish’ - the social awareness club of the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade, Delhi hosted the ‘Girl Child Event’ on 28 July. The event was sponsored by TATA Motors and supported by the Rotary Club of Delhi. The dignitaries who graced the occasion were Shri K.T. Chacko, Director IIFT, Shri Amod K Kanth IPS (1974), Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights and Shri Sudhir Gupta, President of the Rotary Club of Delhi, Panchshila Park.
The event started off with a welcome prayer by students of the Govt. Sarvodaya Girl Senior Secondary School, Chirag Delhi, one of the schools which had come for the occasion. It was followed by a short video highlighting the activities of the Koshish Club over the last seven years, since its inception in 2004.
Shri K.T. Chacko, retd. (IAS) & Director IIFT addressed the audience and appreciated the spirit of IIFTians behind the cause. He said, “IIFT is the first Indian B-School to mainstream Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and include it in its curriculum & the only college in Northern India to be selected by the Department of Public Enterprise to provide training to Government executives on CSR”.
Shri Amod K. Kanth expressed his undiluted happiness to be a part of the initiative. He shared his personal experience of being the founder and an active volunteer of Prayas – an NGO working with the Delhi Police since 1988 for the rights of marginalized children, women and young people. His words, “Voluntary organisations are created out of accident because of social needs and grow due to these needs” inspired the audience. He also voiced his opinion about the current buzzword – CSR and stressed on the need for active involvement from both the public and the private sector. Shri Sudhir Gupta was delighted to be a part of the ‘Girl Child Event’ at IIFT and urged further participation from the students in social activities.
This was followed by the distribution of educational kits comprising of school bags, dictionaries, notebooks and stationary sets to 180 students of the participating schools.

The dignitaries present were delighted to see the huge number of IIFT students as Koshish Club members since it was their contribution too that made the event successful. The event provided for the budding leaders of tomorrow to understand the importance of corporate social responsibility and their contribution to society.
The students of the MBA (IB) program at IIFT also performed a skit which highlighted the plight of the girl child in India and threw light on the various stereotypes existing in our society. It was very well received and lauded by the audience. The students of Govt. Sarvodaya Girls Senior Secondary School performed a song which concluded the 3rd successful edition of the Koshish Girl Child Event at IIFT.
