Krishnapatanam UMPP transferred to Reliance Power

New Delhi, 29th January, 2008: Reliance Power Limited, part of Reliance Energy Limited today formally acquired Coastal Andhra Power Limited (CAPL), the SPV formed to implement the 4000 MW Krishnapatnam UMPP in Andhra Pradesh. The transfer agreements were exchanged between Jayarama Chalsani of Reliance Power and V.K.Garg, Chairman PFC, Satnam Singh Director Finance and Chairman CAPL at a function in the capital today.
 
 
Speaking on the occasion Mr Jayarama Chalsani, Reliance Power, said "We have proposed to set up over 28,000MW of power project in the country including the Krishnapatnam Ultra Mega Power Project which has been transferred to us today. We are happy that this project is receiving all around support to ensure speedy implementation."
 
 
The 4000 MW Krishnapatnam Power project will entail an investment of over Rs 16,000 Crore and employ super critical green technology. CAPL entered into Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with 11 procurers from four states.
 
 
Reliance Power Limited (RPL) secured the rights to implement the Krishnapatnam Thermal Power Project based on imported coal through a process of international competitive bidding. The project is expected to consume over 14 MTPA of coal. The project will supply power to 11 procurers for the state of Andhra Pradesh (1600 MW), Tamil Nadu (800 MW) Karnataka (800 MW) and Maharashtra (800 MW),.
 
 
RPL emerged as the successful bidder in the fiercely contested bids for the Krishnapatnam Project, with the lowest levelised tariffs of Rs 2.33 per unit.
 
 
Reliance Power now has won two out of the three UMPPs offered so far and is developing 8000 MW of Ultra Mega Power projects.
