MRIU team wins the Best Technology Innovation Award and Skid Pad Test at the country’s most coveted event for engineering students
Taking innovation to the next level, Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad students won in SUPRA SAE India 2011 organized by Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) at Madras Motor Sports Race Track, Chennai from 1st to 3rd July, 2011. A single team from the university has won the Best Technology Innovation Award and Skid Pad Test (the vehicle is required to complete small radius circular laps in minimum time). Manav Rachna is known for achievements in the fields of research and development and has recorded some of its grandest accomplishments in the recent times.
The team, ‘Cool Runnings’ a group of students (Sameer Gupta – Captain, Abhishek Nandal – Vice Captain, Brijesh Kumar, Parag Sharma, Pravesh Malhan, Puneet Moun, Tarun Rana, Sahil Chadda and Vipul Kumar) from Automobile Engineering and Mechanical Engineering of Faculty of engineering and Technology, Manav Rachna International University, won two prestigious prizes at Supra SAE India 2011, Formula Car Competition of testing for performance and manufacturing.
Team grabbed first place in Technology Innovation and won the prize amount of Rs. 50000/- and second place in Skid Pad test and prize amount of Rs. 25000/-.
Congratulating the winners, Mr. Prashant Bhalla, Senior Vice President, Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad said, “We are really proud of our students and we also have immense faith in them and our faculty members. Our approach at Manav Rachna has always been to build a firm foundation for our students and initiatives like these help students gain the required exposure and experience in their fields of interest. We aim at boosting their confidence and passion to work hard in this competitive industry.”

Around 80 teams participated out of which only 46 teams were selected through Virtual competition for final event which took place on July 2011. After the last evaluation, only 26 teams were selected to participate in final event of the racing (Endurance).
The team Cool Runnings has won first prize in static event (Technology innovation) and second place in Dynamic Event (skid pad Test) through its hard work and design. The first prize of innovation is achieved for the design innovation in rear suspension, which is unique suspension used in vehicle where the wheel travels vertically in a single plane with the help of guide mechanism.
The projects of the students fuels the exuberance of the youth by providing teams a platform to test their mettle, giving them a pragmatic exposure to real world challenges as faced in the industry. Students realize their talent through such an experience, making them proven candidates for the future as technocrats, entrepreneurs, designers, innovators and leaders.
Supra SAE India 2011 was organized at the first time in India at Chennai from 30th June 2011 to 3rd July 2011, with an objective to present the Under Graduate & Post Graduate Engineering Students the task of designing, modeling and fabricating a formula type racing car. The concept behind SUPRA SAEINDIA 2011 is that a fictious manufacturing company contacts a design team to develop a small Formula style race car. The prototype is to be evaluated for its potential as a racing car.

SUPRA SAEINDIA is an unique event that blends the challenge and excitement of motorsports with the learnings and experience in team work and engineering. It provides a real world engineering challenge to the Student members that reflect the steps involved in the entire process from design and engineering to production to marketing and endurance. The concept behind SUPRA SAEINDIA is that a fictional manufacturing company has contacted a design team to develop a small Formula style race car. The prototype is to be evaluated for its potential as a racing car.
The target marketing group for the race car is the nonprofessional weekend autocross racer. Each team designs and produces a prototype based on well laid down rules & regulations.
