>Management Development Institute (MDI), in its efforts to establish academia and industry collaborations has signed a major MoU with Power Grid Corporation India Limited (POWERGRID). POWERGRID is the Central Transmission Utility (CTU) of the country and wheels about 45% of the total power generated in India on its transmission network. This agreement has been done to engage in constructive association in not only management development programmes (MDPs) but also in the areas of academic programmes, consulting and research. The MOU was signed by Dr. B.S. Sahay, Director, Management Development Institute (MDI) and Shri V.M. Kaul, Director (Personnel), Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID). On this occasion, Prof. Pritam Singh, Professor of Eminence, Prof. C.P. Shrimali, Dean Continuing Education, Prof. G.K. Agarwal and other faculty members from MDI were present. From POWERGRID, Shri R.P. Ojha, ED (HR),Shri I.R. Kidwai, ED (HR), Shri Chetan Varma, GM (HRD), Mrs. Meenakshi Davar, AGM (HR), Dr. G. Jawahar, DGM (HRD) also joined the occasion.
The B-school has been at the forefront of making relationships with the industry and considers this partnership as a significant move for the institute. The institute has been keen on having more contribution from the industry in the classroom and believes that academia has a vital role to play in the growth of industry. MDI, being the market leader in executive education in India would undertake competency development programmes for different levels of executives at POWERGRID. POWERGRID would be utilizing the excellent intellectual resource and infrastructure of MDI to facilitate POWERGRID in its various areas of talent and organization development.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. B.S. Sahay said, “We are proud to have this partnership with POWERGRID which is not limited to only MDPs. Executives from POWERGRID have been coming to MDI for in-company programmes. Now the tie-up is on multiple aspects and we look forward to bridging the gap between academia and the industry. MDI would be providing consulting to POWERGRID. Research projects, case writing, conferences, continuing education, consulting are integral part of MDI and now we look forward to work in collaboration with POWERGRID for the same.”
Shri V.M. Kaul commended MDI’s efforts towards bringing the industry and academia closer. Speaking on the tie-up, he said “POWERGRID is confident that the MoU and subsequent management training at MDI will transform executives across levels into tomorrow’s visionary corporate leaders. The transmission utilities giant highly praised MDI for bringing industry closer to B-schools and expressed their willingness to collaborate in various areas based on their internal requirements.
The MOU has been signed for an initial period of 5 years to be reviewed for further extension. This would be a mutually beneficial arrangement as POWERGRID is a Navratna state-owned company and one of the largest transmission utilities in the world and MDI is ranked among the top five B-Schools in India.
