Nasscom announces winners of its fifth annual Global Leadership Award

Nasscom the premier trade body and the “voice” of the Indian IT – BPO industry today announced the winners of the fifth Nasscom Global Leadership Award. The Awards, conceptualized and presented by Nasscom, seek to recognize some of the most renowned names from the world of business and technology. They will be presented to individuals for their role in building business excellence and technology leadership within their organizations, in the areas such as vision, excellence in IT usage, technology innovation, thought and business leadership.

 

This year’s winners will be felicitated by Hon’ble Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology, Shri Jyotiraditya Madhavrao Scindia at the evening awards ceremony on February 12th 2009, in Mumbai on the sidelines of the Nasscom India Leadership Forum 2009.

The Excellence in IT Usage Award is for a CEO who has helped put in place a strong IT- BPO strategy within the organization and encouraged the extensive use of technology for achieving business goals and operational excellence. This individual would have spearheaded initiatives to automate the processes of the company to improve product/service quality and enhance customer responsiveness. As CEO, he/she would have placed IT on Boardroom agenda and harnessed technology to make the organization more efficient, productive, profitable and globally competitive. The organization, meanwhile, would have a significant presence in India and would have contributed towards the growth of the Indian economy and the particular sector it was active in. This year’s winner for Nasscom Excellence in IT Usage Award 2009 is Mr. Les Dawson, CEO, Southern Waters.

The “Vision Award” in particular recognizes technology leads within organizations who have helped put in place a strong IT strategy within the company and encouraged the extensive use of technology for achieving business goals and operational excellence. This year’s winner for Nasscom Vision Award is Mr. Madhavan Nair, Chairman, ISRO

The Award for the Global Indian will go to an individual who has earned his spurs in the overseas domains and brought fame and glory to his country of birth—India. This individual would have gained recognition for his work within the academic or business communities and proved himself as a visionary and thought leader. A trend-setter, this individual would have redefined the rules of the game through his studies or path-breaking business initiatives, setting new paradigms in the fields he/she is a part of. The work of this person would have had an impact on and contributed in some way to the growth of the global economy. This year’s Nasscom Global Indian Award 2008 goes to Prof. CK Prahlad.

The “CIO of the Year Award” in particular, goes to an individual who has crafted a unique ICT strategy for the organization, harnessing technology to derive and achieve significant business benefits. Using expertise and experience, the CIO would have aligned ICT investments with the company’s business goals, and provided technology leadership through a period of intense change. The winner for this year’s Nasscom Global CIO Award is Mr. Guy Chiarello, CIO, JP Morgan Chase.
