Plustek SmartOffice PL2546 helps users scan documents and convert them into searchable PDF format before sending them to the repository.
Plustek PL2546 has an automatic document feeder (ADF) that takes 50 sheets at a time and has a heavy duty cycle of up to 1500 sheets per day. Its scanning speed is amazing as well for it can scan 25 pages per minute (or 46 images per minute) in colour, duplex mode (both sides of a page - front and back). This is highly convenient when compared to traditional scanners available in the market wherein the user has to scan every page individually and then compile all scan results into one document which in fact is a big drain on resources, energy and time.

The improved TWAIN driver of Plustek SmartOffice PL2546 scanner makes scanning as simple as photocopying. The auto detector function of this scanner also allows an auto preview of the scan. In fact, this scanner can be considered as electronic photocopiers. Users can just scan the documents to be copied in a flash and fire a print of the scan results through laser printer in desired numbers to get as many copies as they want. SmartOffice PL2546 looks quite different from normal flatbed scanners owing to its superior mechanical design. At Plustek, lot of research and development has gone in to come up with mechanical designs that are aimed at gaining better image focus and minimizing paper jams. This circumvents the messy task of opening the device and pulling paper out every time it signals a jam.
It offers high resolution (flatbed, 1200 x 1200 dpi optical resolution) owing to Plustek’s advanced CIS sensor technology, making it ideal for photo scanning. Improved colour accuracy enhances images and produces much truer and more consistent colours in scan results. Users can choose to scan the documents in black and white mode as well. When deployed at the front office, SmartOffice PL2546 makes use of its Hotcard BizCard Finder 2.5 utility software that helps it perform the business card (visiting card) recognition function and photo/document database building for information management purpose. It quickly converts the vital contact information on the visiting card / business card into convenient and searchable digital database that can be easily synchronised between various access devices including PCs and PDAs.
The powerful ABBYY FineReader 6.0 Sprint Plus OCR (optical character recognition) software bundled into this new scanner is versatile enough to batch all scan results pertaining to a task into one single file or individual files as directed. If the users want to save the scan result in a desirable Microsoft Office application format—be it word processor, spreadsheet etc.,—it can be done easily through OCR software’s advanced settings. The scan results are high in accuracy (users do not have to tally scan results with original document time and again) and are in editable mode such that they can make required changes. The OCR software recognizes paper documents, PDF files and all popular image file formats. Therefore, users can instantly retype their paper documents, quickly convert PDF files into text and reproduce original layouts almost perfectly. Besides all this, the OCR software recognizes as many as 177 different languages making the product truly global in terms of use.
The scan results can also be converted into PDF documents that are searchable in an instant using the NewSoft Presto! Image Folio—powerful document management software meant for OCR, PDF creation, and converting PDFs into MS Word or MS Excel format while maintaining colour and images. It stacks associated files together so they can be opened together and allows convenient browsing of images through SlideShow applet. It also provides for network support to share files over a network.
