Reliance Technology Group Hazira Wins Prestigious International Award

Catalyst & Material Reliance Technology Centre (CMRTC) at the Hazira Manufacturing Division (HMD) of Reliance Industries Limited was conferred with the 2009 Laboratory of the Year (LOY) Special Mention Award. The award is given by R&D Magazine (USA) published by renowned Hal Avery Publisher which has a world wide circulation within Global R&D community of 90,000. CMRTC is the first lab from India as well as Asia to win an R&D lab of the Year Special Mention Award.

The award is delivered to the research facility which has distinguished architectural design judged by experts from the field of R&D programming, planning, design, construction, and engineering. The panel also includes representative from “user” side – people who work in labs every day – and several knowledgeable people from furniture/equipment vendor community. Editor of R&D magazine and Laboratory Design News Letter also serves on the panel. There are more than 30 different characteristics that the judges evaluate lab for including Sitting, Planning, Flow of materials and people, Plant Operation, Aesthetics, Working Conditions, Energy Efficiency, and Cost to Build/Operate.

 

CMRTC received the award for renovation project executed by an in-house team in cost effective manner that resulted in a lab which meets the characteristics that define the current trends in new design like lab flexibility, interaction spaces and creation of environment for innovation. Renovation of CMRTC with theme of Innovation was executed by multifunctional team of R&D, CES, CTS under the visionary leadership of Sh. HS Kohli (Executive Director, RIL). The Project Manager was Dr V.K.Gupta, HOD R&D / CMRTC Hazira.

Dr. Ajit Sapre (Head – Reliance Technology Group) received the award at 43rd annual international award ceremony on March 24, 2009 at the Hilton Rockville, Maryland (Washington D.C.). The other recipients of LOY include Harvard, Carleton & Columbia University R&D laboratories.

The award has placed CMRTC-RIL among few global laboratories having a state–of–the–art laboratory design, achieving one more milestone in RIL’s journey of creating R&D center of excellence.
