Satyam Computer Services Ltd. (NYSE: SAY), a leading global consulting and information technology services provider, announced today that it plans to collaborate on several critical research projects with The Centre for Data Engineering (CDE) at the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) in Hyderabad. The CDE conducts extensive research in data engineering to develop innovative solutions that meet the market’s increasing demands in data and information management solutions.

Satyam and the CDE will work on the “Nurture a Research Area” Program, which was established to foster collaboration between industry bodies and IIIT to create solutions to problems in areas of mutual interest. The collaboration between IIIT-Hyderabad and Satyam will focus on research and development in data mining and open source technologies. Additionally, it will leverage the analytics expertise of IIIT to uncover business opportunities associated with social networking. The organizations will also work together to create methodologies and tools to extract knowledge from these networks and develop joint assets.

“Satyam and the CDE are focusing on data mining, especially where it concerns behavioral and psychographic analysis that will give companies insights into the buying behaviors of their customers,” said Swaminathan Srinivasan, Head, BI and PM Solutions & Alliances at Satyam. “There is a real need for such solutions today, since most companies are sitting on huge volumes of data but cannot ‘get their arms around it’ to make meaningful decisions.”

Satyam and the CDE have also been working on service-oriented architecture and testing as per a separate agreement between SatyamQEdge team and IIIT-Hyderabad since May’2008. Other areas of focus include databases, query processing, data mining, information retrieval, mobile data dissemination, multi-agent systems, knowledge management and recommendation systems.

“We are grateful for Satyam’s sponsorship of our Nurture a Research Area program, and its commitment to topics of interest to the school and the business community,” said Prof. Rajeev Sangal, Director IIIT-Hyderabad. “We look forward to leveraging the data and text mining expertise we have developed at the CDE, along with Satyam’s business and industry capabilities, to build exceptional tools and solutions that glean significant value and knowledge from social networking sites.”
