Canada will be participating in the 14th Technology Summit & Technology Platform in New Delhi, December 5-6, 2008, as a major participating country. A delegation of nearly 25 representatives from Canadian companies, universities, research organizations, and government departments will attend the summit to showcase Canadian clean energy capabilities. The focus of the summit, organized by the Confederation of India Industry (CII), is to leverage investment opportunities in clean technologies.
The Technology Summit will provide a platform for the Canadian delegates to interact with Indian companies and researchers to explore new technologies, develop business linkages and identify research and development opportunities. Canada’s participation at the summit further builds on the momentum gained by the signing of a bilateral science and technology cooperation agreement in 2005. The size of the Canadian delegation participating in the summit demonstrates Canada's interest in advancing collaboration with India to higher levels.
The rising costs of conventional fuels coupled with the impact of climate change are driving Canadian innovations in the renewable energy sector. Canadian innovations are also successfully meeting the global demand for clean technology that benefit the environment and combat climate change. Canada’s success in various technologies such as solar, geothermal, tidal energy, biomass, hydro, hydrogen/fuel cells, water and waste treatment and energy savings have opened new opportunities in collaborative research and commercialization.
