Supreme Court lifts trophy at 4th Manav Rachna Corp Cricket tournament

The 4th 20Twenty Corporate cricket Cup, 2011 was successfully concluded today with Supreme Court emerging as the winners. In a nail biting final Supreme Court defeated NDTV.by 7 wickets. Abhishek from Supreme court was declared as man of the match. The key dignitaries present were Shri Sukhbir Singh Kataria, Minister of State for Sports & Youth Affairs, Govt of Haryana (Chief Guest for the event) and Shri Chetan Sharma, Former test Cricketer (guest of Honour).

The event was felicitated by Dr. Amit Bhalla, Vice President, MREI. Supreme Court won the toss and elected to field first. NDTV scored 226 runs in 20 overs. In reply Supreme Court team scored 229 runs and won the match by 7 wickets runs.

 

The 4th Manav Rachna Corporate 20-Twenty Cricket Challenge cup 2011 was played from 29th January to 26st March 2011, at the Campus grounds on a league-cum-knock out basis. This is a pioneering event which has been running successfully since the last 4 years and enjoys massive support and participation from many corporate teams.

Speaking on the occasion Dr. O.P. Bhalla, Chancellor, MRIU said, “Since its inception in 2008, this tournament has given us many exciting matches that have witnessed top corporate cricket teams such as NDTV, Supreme Court, Sports Scribe, Aaj Tak and Asian Institute of Medical Sciences playing on this turf. We hope that the spirit of game is kept alive always and cricket continues to grow.”

Also present to grace the occasion were Dr. O.P. Bhalla, Chancellor, MREI; Dr. Amit Bhalla, Vice President, MREI; Dr. N.C. Wadhwa, Vice Chancellor; Mr. Sarkar Talwar, Director Sports; Victor Gambhir, Pro Vice Chancellor along with the other senior management from MREI.

As part of the closing ceremony, Shri Sukhbir Singh Kataria, Minister of State for Sports & Youth Affairs, Govt of Haryana said, “All the teams that have participated in the tournament are winners in true sense. This tournament has brought forth many cricketing talents. Manav Rachna International University through its world class teaching methodology and initiatives like these has been continuously making great contributions in the field of education and sports.”

• Asian Institute of Medical Sciences

In the semi finals Aaj Tak defeated NDTV and Supreme Court defeated Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) to enter the Finals.

After receiving his player of the tournament award, Aditya from Supreme Court said, “Our team performed consistently well throughout the tournament which has paved way towards lifting the cup. The facilities provided at the university are excellent and the crowd is very warm and supportive. I will look forward to this tournament many more times in the future as well. I extend my gratitude to Manav Rachna International University for creating a platform that has not only helped us understand the importance to work as a unit but has also helped us interact with talented students at the campus, who we look forward to work along with, professionally as well”

2. The Runner Up Trophy - NDTV

Mr. Sarkar Talwar, Director sports, Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad said, “It is the result of consistent effort of the management to maintain the state of the art facilities for such events and extend our amenities to the corporates. This has helped our students also, since they get to interact with people from different areas and industries. We are determined to enhance the facilities and involve more teams in this tournament in the coming years.”

“The Corporate Cricket Tournament had been conceptualized to not only offer entertainment but also to salute the true sportsman spirit”, he further added.

MREI has always encouraged sporting talent amongst its students and actively supported tournaments at all level. The Manav Rachna Corporate Cup was started 4 years ago and since then this tournament has gained prominence. It also serves as a medium to bring people together from different organizations and provide a platform to the students to interact with some of the top corporates in the country.
