"To make society crime free, we must consider the needs of the Youth," opines O.P. Singh at the Valediction Ceremony of the annual National Psychological Festival at Amity University.
The two day Psychology Fest “ABHIVYAKTI – 2011” by Amity Institution of Psychology & Allied Sciences culminated with discussions and deliberations on the theme “Crime Prevention in Youth: Strategies and Interventions” at the Amity Campus, Sector – 125, Noida.
Eminent personalities present during the valediction were Dr. Shubhra Sanyal, Retd. Professor, Criminal Psychologist, National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science; O.P. Singh, IPS, Additional Director General of Police (Special enquiry), Government of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow ; Dr. Malati Khaitan, Renowned Flower therapist and Researcher; Shreerupa Parsrampuria, Director, Make a Wish Foundation and Vipin Suri, Co-Founder , Road Pe Rahi Bhai Bhai, an organisation on road safety awareness. Prof. Abha Singh, Director, Amity Institute of Psychology and Allied Sciences was present during occasion.
While addressing the august gathering, O.P. Singh, IPS, Additional Director General of Police (Special enquiry), Government of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow said, “it has become essential for us to understand that increasing criminal psychology of the youth. The reasons behind such an attitude of the youth are identity crisis, lack of self confidence and unemployment. To make the society crime free the needs of the youth are to be taken special care off.”
Dr. Shubhra Sanyal, Retd. Professor, Criminal Psychologist, National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science spoke on the psychology of the youth. Dr. Shubhra Sanyal said that psychology helps in understanding the various mental problems of the young people on one hand and on the other it tries to rectify the mistakes of the guardians in the up bringing of their children. It has also become necessary to make some changes in the juvenile justice. The punishment should help the juveniles to correct themselves and help them to become responsible citizens in future.
In his valedictory address, Dr. Ashok K. Chauhan, Founder President, Amity Group said that psychology is an indispensable part of human study. Every human problem can be solved with the psychological pursuit. Therefore, it has the capacity to change the world and make it a better place.

While delivering her lecture on “Flower Power Prevents Truancy, Lying and Stealing”, Shreerupa Parsrampuria, Director, Make a Wish Foundation said that since ages flowers are the sources of happiness and help to heal our mind, body and soul from various ailments at a faster pace. Flowers are the nature’s gift to human. The aromas of the flowers have very strong positive effects on our mind which also helps in crime reduction. Our mind is the central processing unit in the body. Therefore, it helps in processing the entire body and balances the mind and body. Human beings fall prey to bad habits due to some mental disturbance which leads the mind to indulge in negative activities. As food nourishes our body, flowers nourish our soul. Competition, success. Failure,fear, anxiety, revengeful attitude, frustration, anger intends people to do wrong deeds. Such activities degrade human values. According to Indian cultures and vedic teaching tamsik activities lead people to drinking, smoking and make people habituated to unhealthy lifestyle.
Mind is responsible for our good and bad behavior. Therefore mind has to be taken care off. Flower therapy plays a significant role in correcting our activities. Insomnia suppression, ego, rebellious nature can be tackled with the flower therapy. Ashoka tree, golmohar, drumstick, curry leaves, French marigold, lotus, mulberry, onion, sunflower, willow, passion flower, Jasmine and petunia plays wonders in healing both physical as well as mental anxieties and ailments. Flowers harmonise the energy flow in our body. It is a bridge between mind and body which helps in our thinking process and attitude, comments Shreerupa Parsrampuria.
The lecture was followed by an informative and interactive question and answer session on the content of flower therapy and its healing properties of mental ailments between the expert panelists, faculty members and the students.
Vipin Suri, Co-Founder , Road Pe Rahi Bhai Bhai, chaired a penal discussion on the theme “Prevention Strategies for Road Rage”. Vipin said that his organisation took the initiative to bring peace on the roads by educating people on the repercussions of accidents, mental stress and strain which the victim’s family has to undergo and the pains of fellow travelers of losing their near and dear ones due to road rage. The penal discussions bring various dos and don’ts on road safety and road rage to the forefront which benefitted all.
Students from Amity School of Engineering and Technology (ASET), Amity Institute of Biotechnology (AIB), Amity Institute of Psychology and Allied Sciences (AIPAS), Amity Institute of Information Technology (AIIT) and Amity School of Communication took part in the penal discussion.
The events that took place during the two day Psychology Fest are Emoticon, Graffitti, Panel discussion on the theme “Role of Youth in Eradicating Corruption, Psycho Babble, Revisiting Scripture, Brain Teaser, “U and Colors” and Razmatazz
The following were declared as winners during various competitions: Emoticon- Sabnam Ralhan and Arun Kumar (Amity Institute of Pharmacy) won the first prize, Eshani Raj, Ria Tripathi and Pallivi (Amity School of Engineering and Technology) won the second prize. Brain Teaser- Varun Arora and Rahul Tiwari (Amity School of Engineering and Technology) won the first prize, Abhisekh Bhoumik and Ankur Gowswami (Amity Institute of Aerospace) won the second prize; Graffitti- Gaurav Rawal (Amity School of Engineering and Technology) won the first prize; Psycho Babble- Aradhika Singh (Amity School of Fine Arts) won the first prize and Purusarth Mohan (Amity Institute of Biotechnology) won the second prize; Revisiting Scriptures on Human Values- Akash Singh, Semarpreet Kaur, Nelotpal Sarkar, Sebin Nizar, Shashank Hariviyashi (Amity Institute of Nano Technology) won the first prize; “U and Colors”- Vinay Sharma (Venkatswara College) won the first prize, Mohit Sharma (Zakir Hussain College) won the second prize and Anuj Vashisth (Amity School of Fine Arts) won the third prize.
