Platts – Platts, a leading global provider of energy and metals information and division of The McGraw Hill-Companies, has appointed Vandana Hari to the position of Editorial Director for Asia. In this role, Ms Vandana will provide editorial leadership to all the editorial segments in Asia — oil, power, petrochemicals and metals — and help further Platts’ ambitious growth plans for the region. Asia has been a strong center of growth for Platts in recent years and is critical to Platts' plans to expand its presence in existing businesses and across geographies. Both India and China figure prominently as areas of opportunity.
Vandana began her journalistic career in New Delhi in 1989 and joined Platts in 1995. She is based in Singapore.
“Vandana will have responsibility for engaging with our various markets as the senior-most editorial leader in the Asia region, enhancing the quality of our news and market reporting in support of sector and local managers, and playing a key role in hiring and career development of regional staff. She will participate in regional business development from an editorial perspective, and act as a high-level representative of Platts to the regional oil, petrochemicals, power and metals industries. I congratulate Vandana on her new assignment and wish her success in helping to drive our continued editorial excellence in Asian markets”, said Larry Neal, President, Platts.
Speaking on her new assignment, Ms Vandana Hari stated “The position of Editorial director for Asia underscores both the commitment of Platts management to furthering its business objectives in Asia and providing full support to our editorial staff in the region. Both the China and Indian markets specifically are of key strategic importance for Platts and will require focused attention as we develop our full editorial and business potential there. We are working towards achieving this goal. I am happy to be associated with Platts all through and look forward to an exciting and rewarding experience.”
Vandana has served most recently as Asia news director for the oil group. She joined Platts as Hong Kong bureau chief before relocating to Singapore with her family in 1998. She served a year-long stint covering the Asia crude oil markets in 2000. Apart from her news responsibilities, Vandana has also helped lead the India editorial strategy over the past couple of years, and worked on the Platts News Council developing global news training programs. For the past five years, she has been a regular commentator on CNBC, BBC, Singapore's Channel News Asia, and Indian TV news channels including CNBC TV 18, Bloomberg UTV, ET Now, and NDTV. Vandana began her journalistic career with The Times of India in New Delhi in 1989 and worked with several magazines in Hong Kong before joining Platts.
