Websense also rated in the Critical Capabilities for Content-Aware Data Loss Prevention report; and as a leader in the Magic Quadrant for Secure Web Gateway

An increasingly mobile workforce, more social networks, and advanced attacks have made it critical for organizations to quickly deploy effective data theft prevention. That’s why Websense, Inc. (NASDAQ: WBSN) developed the TRITON™ solution, which includes the Websense®Data Security Suite. And Gartner, Inc. has positioned Websense as a leader in its recently released “Magic Quadrant for Content-Aware Data Loss Prevention” and published a Websense evaluation in the “Critical Capabilities for Content-Aware Data Loss Prevention” report.

“We quickly and easily reduced our risk of data theft and assured compliance with Websense,” said Larry Whiteside Jr, CISO for Visiting Nurse Service of N.Y., a Websense TRITON customer. “Instead of spending valuable staff time on painfully tedious data discovery on minor data, Websense helped me solve the real problem—protecting our most important information from being stolen. We started with the most sensitive data and moved out from there. When I evaluated DLP, I wanted a product that reduced risk from day one, while being effective and easy to roll out and manage. Websense delivered. I talked to my peers who chose other DLP products and I’ve heard all of their war stories and complaints. It’s clear to me that I made the right choice.”

Vendors in the Magic Quadrant are evaluated based on their completeness of vision and ability to execute. The Critical Capabilities report assessed vendors according to nine critical capabilities and five use cases. Gartner, Inc. evaluated the Websense Data Security Suite for both reports.

“We believe our leader’s quadrant position in the current Gartner Magic Quadrant for Content-Aware Data Loss Prevention is more evidence of our unique data theft prevention technology,” said John McCormack, president, Websense. “In today’s difficult security environment, you can’t afford to deploy simple DLP capabilities. In addition, traditional defenses of antivirus and firewalls are not stopping aggressive cybercriminals. Organizations need a new security architecture that keeps new and unknown threats out and their intellectual property within their environment.”

According to a recent Juniper Networks® sponsored Ponemon Institute survey, respondents said that external agents (55 percent) and insiders (49 percent) are most often behind security breaches. Fifty-two percent of respondents said “the breaches were caused by insider abuse, 48 percent say it was malicious software download, and 43 percent say it was malware from a website.” The survey continued by citing “employee mobile devices and laptops are seen as the most likely endpoint from which serious cyber attacks are unleashed against a company.”(iii) Websense addresses these threats with complementary email, web, and data security that prevents malware while it discovers, monitors, and protects data at rest, in use, and in motion—including data in the cloud.

Ideal for large or small enterprises, Websense Data Security Suite administrators use it to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with regulations such as HIPAA, PCI, SOX, EU Directive 95/46/EC, and PIPA. With more than 1,100 built-in templates and rules powered by Websense PreciseID™ natural language processing, and support for hundreds of unique file types, Data Security Suite identifies confidential data traversing the network, servers, databases, laptops, and other locations. Organizations can stop, encrypt, or quarantine transmission of sensitive data and audit, remove/tombstone, or encrypt data discovered in non-secure locations.

“Preventing employees from inadvertently leaking information is not the biggest challenge IT is facing today,” said McCormack. “The focus needs to be on data theft, which can’t be prevented by ineffective, outdated, and piecemeal approaches. Our TRITON data theft technology shares intelligence from the web and email channels to give real-time protection against the latest data theft behavior. That’s the most pressing concern of today’s businesses, especially as advanced attack techniques move down the malware adoption lifecycle, bringing incredibly effective techniques into the hands of shockingly effective cybercriminals.”

Websense is also positioned as a leader in the “Magic Quadrant for Secure Web Gateway.”(iv) Websense data theft prevention solutions are tightly integrated into Websense’s Web Security Gateway and Email Security Gateway, which are parts of the Websense TRITON solution. This powerful integration provides Websense with security visibility and context that competitors can’t match—including data theft and loss alerts that provide details about the user, manager, organization, and communication method. Other solutions provide only IP addresses for source and destination, which is a burden to administrators who then have to map the addresses to individual users for each alert. This additional time and management increases cost and slows down response.

The Websense TRITON solution offers complementary web, email, and data loss prevention (DLP) security. They can be bundled together from day one or purchased as standalone packages and integrated later. The TRITON solution is available in enterprise-grade appliances, as cloud-based services (SaaS), and as powerful and efficient hybrids of on-premise and SaaS elements working together.
