Coffee table book 'Womens Cricket World- A Journey from 1745-2013' released

Cricket aficionados rejoice! www.Womenscricketworld.com, a premier website dedicated to International Women Cricket was launched by bollywod diva Rani Mukherjee in the city today. www.womenscricketworld.com is the brainchild of former Indian stalwart cricketer Anjum Chopra and sports filmmaker Sunil Yash Karla. The duo have also coauthored a coffee table book encompassing the history of Women’s Cricket titled –‘Womens Cricket World- A Journey from 1745-2013’ was launched recently in the capital. 

www.womenscriciketworld.com will be a one stop destination on all current and past happenings in the world of women cricket. Commenting on the same Anjum Chopra said, “As a former Indian cricketer I realized that there is a lacuna with regards to information on the game. This website will attempt to fill this void. The website is a celebration of women's cricket and should further promote and popularise the game.” 

 

Speaking on the occasion Rani Mukherjee said, “I am a sports enthuse & an ardent cricket fan. I am happy to learn that Women’s Cricket World has emerged from India, the heart of cricket in the world, it is the best sports literally gift to other cricket crazy nations. I hope this benchmark project motivates more girls to take up cricket and expand this wonderful sport.”

Speaking on the occasion Sunil Karla said, “Womens Cricket World is the result of six years of hard work. I am happy that Rani has kindly consented to release the same. She has always supported the cause of women in sports particularly cricket.” 

Anjum Chopra and Sunil Karla have co authored a coffee table book ‘Womens Cricket World- A Journey from 1745-2013’ in the capital. Women’s Cricket World is the world’s first coffee table book on women's cricket. It is a pioneer attempt to salute and acknowledge the illustrious past and present of women's cricket. The book has over 200 photographs from a collection of over 10,000 pictures of women’s cricket collected over the years by the authors. The book has eight chapters and the introduction of the book is written by the ICC President Sharad Pawar. 

The book, relives behind-the-scenes tour of the origins of the game, we are accorded the privilege of following the spoor left by a succession of pioneering eves as they fought their way into the global spotlight. Rani Mukherjee read experts from the book at the event. 

Many firsts are attached with this book, including the first time introduction of “Books on Demand” – concept in Indian sports publishing.
