Buoyed by the success of its AC drives which are being promoted by Electrical & Automation (E&A) business of Larsen & Toubro (L&T) in the Indian market, Yaskawa Electric Corporation of Japan has commenced manufacturing these drives and servo products in Bangalore. The facility, set up under the supervision of Japanese technical experts, will produce 40,000 units of new generation AC Drives a year. The 55,000 sq. ft. facility with four manufacturing lines will offer employment to local talent and have a workforce of 100 employees by March 2012.
At a function held at L&T's Automation Campus, Navi Mumbai to commemorate the commencement of production in India, Mr. Michihiko Zenke, Associate Director, Yaskawa Electric Corporation, Japan handed over the first India-manufactured unit of AC drive to Mr. P. K. Bajaj, Vice President and Mr. V.K. Arora, General Manager of E&A.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Zenke said, "L&T and Yaskawa are partners for nearly three decades for providing automation solutions to Indian customers. Indian market is important for Yaskawa, however, our association with L&T is even more important." He further added, "Yaskawa's manufacturing unit in Bangalore will help customers with shortened delivery cycles and meet diversified user demands with product features suited for the Indian environment."
L&T provides motion control solutions using Yaskawa products to process plants, manufacturing plants, buildings and various industrial machinery sectors. The success of their strong association has resulted in the setting up a manufacturing unit in Bangalore for meeting the increased demand for motion control products in India which is a step towards staying closer to customers and reinforcing Yaskawa-L&T's long term commitment to serve the Indian market.
Yaskawa drives will continue to be supplied to customers through L&T's systems integration facility at Navi Mumbai as well as its wide network of more than 600 channel partners across the country.
