Activists, civil society for stirring up Singur cause

Chief minister Mamata Banerjee and Trinamool leaders like Subrata Bakshi, Purnendu Bose and Bratya Basu attended the meeting, while others like Siddiqullah Chowdhury of All India United Democratic and Samir Putatunda of PDS were also present.

While Banerjee did not make any statement after the meet, Putatunda said a resolution had been adopted that efforts would be made to return land to the unwilling farmers while steps would be taken to restore the rights of farmers and bargadars of Singur.

Playwright Bibhas Chakraborty, who represented civil society along with painter Subho Prasanna, said that a movement for return of land would be initiated by all so that land losers received justice.

 

In its verdict,The Kolkata High Court had yesterday said that the legislation Singur Land and Rehabilitation Act 2011 passed in the West Bengal assembly was unconstitutional and void.
