Assam govt admits presence of illegal migrants

Replying to a question by the opposition in the assembly, Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the the process of deportation was on and a bill would be placed to regulate it.

Most of the migrants would be deported to their country, the minister said.

On the rescheduling of status of the Koch Raj Bonghsi schedule tribe community, the minister said an all party delegation would be sent to New Delhi soon to address their long-standing demand for ST status.

The minister also announced that an extradition treaty would be soon drafted to ensure that illegal migrants did not enter the state.
