In a statement, the newspaper said the Karnataka Assembly's decision against its editor Kiran Thakur amounted to "suppression of freedom of press."

The newspaper said two MLA's had complained to the Assembly Speaker alleging that Tarun Bharat had made unwanted remarks against them for last three years and has obstructed them from discharging their duties.

The statement also said Thakur's lawyer was not allowed to plead for him.

The statement said some members of the Karnataka Assembly were "giving a linguistic colour (Kannada-Marathi) to this issue."
