Tourism minister Rachpal Singh told an interactive session with Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industry today that there was no FDI policy in the tourism sector in the state.
West Bengal Tourism Development Corporation managing director Pritha Sarkar said it was looking for private investment.
When a member of the chamber said that there were a few German investors interested in developing tourism infrastructure and facilities, Sarkar could not give a guideline based on which foreign capital could flow into the sector.
On the poor state of some tourist lodges, she said her department was planning to hand over management contract of them to private operators.
Asked about the plan to introduce rail tourism on the lines of Palace of Wheels between Kolkata and Murshidabad, Sarkar said the plan was yet to take shape.
