BJP burns PM's effigy, 91 SUCI workers arrested

The BJP burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, disrupted traffic near Howrah bridge for 30 minutes and formed a human chain at Dharmatolla for 20 minutes.

BJP demonstrators carried posters decrying the 'fiscal mismanagement' of the UPA government which led to the fall of the rupee and the hike in petrol price.

Hundreds of Left opposition SUCI workers violated prohibitory orders before the north gate of Raj Bhavan and scuffled with the police.

The police said 91 SUCI workers were arrested.

CITU state president Shyamal Chakraborty, said a statewide demonstration with two-wheelers would be held from tomorrow starting from North 24 Parganas district since owners would be the hardest hit.
