The 74-year-old "Prometheus" director said that he will reunite with writer Hampton Fancher to develop the sequel, which will take place some years after the first film concluded, reported Ace Showbiz.
"Funny enough, I started my first meetings on the Blade Runner sequel last week. We have a very good take on it. And we'll definitely be featuring a female protagonist," Scott said.
Based on a groundbreaking novel "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" by Philip K Dick, the original "Blade Runner" was set in 2019 where the Earth was invaded by androids and replicants.
Actor Harrison Ford starred as male lead Rick Deckard, who was tasked to track down a group of particularly dangerous replicants. The film was nominated for two Academy Awards in 1983.
