"The opposition will hold a massive 'chakka jam' in the region if the state government fails to order a CBI probe in the 'mukhiya' murder case and subsequent police lathicharge on the people protesting against the incident last week," he said at a public rally at Dhamni village under Haspura block in Aurangabad district.
The RJD chief also met the family members of the slain 'mukhiya' and offered his sympathies to them besides handing over a cheque of Rs one lakh on behalf of his party. The 'mukhiya' was killed by the armed assailants on March 29.
Prasad claimed there has been an alarming rise in the crime graph in the state during the "so-called sushashan" (good governance) of the NDA regime and the law and order situation has worsened to such an extent that people, including the poor, minorities, OBCs and women, no longer felt safe.
The incidents, like abduction and murder of children and students and crime against women and poor, have become routine affair and the police have been unable to check the deterioration, Prasad said.
Instead of discharging their duties as protectors of law, the men in uniform have become emboldened to routinely lathicharge peaceful protesters and fire upon them, he said.
Opposition parties had organised protests in the area on May 2 and the police had used canes and opened fire to disperse them.
