"The Funeral Home in the US has received the body of Pawan Kumar from the Medical Examiner's office, and is ready to transport the body back to India," a Cognizant spokesperson said in a statement.

Kumar, a techie from Tumukur in Karnataka facing the charge of murdering an American woman, allegedly committed suicide on June 19.

"In keeping with the family's request, Cognizant has made arrangements for the body to be transported directly from the Bangalore airport to Tumkur for the final rites," the statement said.

The bereaved family has accused Cognizant of not cooperating with them in bringing the body to his home town and threatened to take legal action.

The company has said its HR officials reminded Kumar's family that no further action could be taken to bring the body back unless they signed and returned forms required by the New Jersey Medical Examiner's office for its release.

The company has claimed that the family members and their lawyers had demanded that all reports, including autopsy and inquest, from the US accompany Kumar's body as a pre-condition to sign the forms.
