The CSE-40 index was up 20.81 points during the day. The local bourse was down 36.94 points in the previous trading session.
The index opened at 5719.64 and inched higher to close at 5730.45.
The trading volume was Rs 28.28 crore from trading of 23 scrips.
Among major scrips, Blueprint Securities was at Rs 307. Infosys Technologies was at Rs 2413.30 at close.
Larsen and Toubro was at Rs 1209 at close. State Bank of India was marginally up at Rs 1854 and Reliance Industries slipped to close at Rs 682.95.
Tata Steel gained to Rs 414.
