"A slew of steps have been taken in the larger interest of the people of the state. By laying the foundation stone of a Vidhan Bhawan at Gairsain in the hills, we have honoured popular aspirations and made a new beginning towards inclusive growth," Bahuguna said in a message to the people of the state on the eve of the Republic Day.
"The state government is committed to take the benefits of development to the whole of Uttarakhand, even to people living in the remote hill areas," he said.
Reaching out to the hill people of the state, Bahuguna laid the foundation stone of a Vidhan Bhawan and related infrastructure at Gairsain on January 14 this year.
Located at a height of 7,000 ft between Kumaon and Garhwal regions, Gairsain is an emotive issue in the state with a large section of those, who fought for a separate Uttarakhand in the 1990s, in favour of the remote place in the hills of Chamoli district being made the permanent capital of the state.
Claiming that efforts are underway to safeguard the interests of women, youth, minorities SCs/STs and other deprived sections, the chief minister said new employment and investment opportunities have been created in the state which will bear fruit in the near future, he said.
