'Have broken myth that we can't do well in physical sports'

"Four out of six medal at the Olympics have come in physical sports. A myth that we can't do well in physical sports has been broken. It shows we have the potential to do well," Khan said.

Khan said India is far away from calling itself a sporting nation and to achieve it, the attitude of sports administrators need to change towards the athletes.

He lamented that most of the players "suffer in silence" and do not get support to prepare themselves for international events.

"Our athletes are supported only after winning. Media also highlight them after they achieve something at the highest level. Nobody cares about the hardships these players face in reaching the top," he said.

 

The Manchester Commonwealth Games (2002) gold medal winner and Arjuna awardee is producing a sports based film titled 'Khwaabb', depicting the sporting scenario in the country.

Directed by his son Zaid Ali Khan, the film focusses on athletics and swimming, sports which have been neglected in the country over the years.
