Interacting with 31 differently-abled children, Kumar said all efforts should be made to ensure the mainstreaming of persons with disabilities to enable them to purposefully contribute "in our national and social life".
The legislative provisions and programmes envisioned for their welfare should be implemented in the right spirit so that benefits percolate down to the target groups in a meaningful manner, she said at a function organised to commemorate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Kumar urged differently-abled persons to have a strong will-power to dismantle barriers that impede their march towards progress.
On the occasion, the Speaker handed over orders for supply of stationery items for the Lok Sabha Secretariat to two NGOs serving persons with disabilities where such items are produced.
