"Even though tension has much reduced (on the LoC), we cannot relax because we have to maintain a strong vigil because a lot of promises were made. Promises are not enough.
"Our considered view is that you have to wait and watch and we should not take any serious steps unless we are convinced that these promises are actually translated into action," he told reporters.
The Minister was answering queries on the situation on the Line of Control and series of reports from Pakistan on the Kargil war.
The Minister, however, refused to divulge details about the promises made by Pakistan.
Tensions between the two countries had flared up after the brutal killing of two Indian soldiers Lance Naiks Hemraj and Sudhakar Singh by Pakistan Army troops along the LoC on January 8.
The tensions came down after talks between the DGMOs of the two countries.
Asked about the construction of three dams by the Chinese side on the Brahmaputra River, he said the Ministry of External Affairs had already stated the Indian position in this regard.
On the ways India was planning to protect its energy interests in the South China sea, Antony said, "We do not have any assets at the moment in the South China Sea. It is still in discussion stage only (with Vietnam).
"As far as our Ministry is concerned, we have no role. It is a purely business proposition," he said.
