The Education department has come across a few instances where some private schools were not implementing Punjabi as a compulsory subject from Classes I-X, which was compulsory under the Punjab, Punjabi and Learning of other Languages Act.

These schools were also found flouting the Punjabi Language Act 2008 for avoiding the use of Punjabi in their official work, the spokesman said here.

He said the Education department has been directed to issue strict notices to such erring institutions to implement Punjabi within 15 days from today, failing which the government would have to strictly implement the various provisions enshrined in both the Acts.

He said the Punjab government had already promulgated the two legislations to ensure proper implementation of Punjabi in all the offices of Punjab government, boards, corporations, subordinate courts and educational institutes in the state.
