The shopkeep, N Jayenta (46), was present at his shop at the time when the grenade was hurled yesterday, the sources said.
No individual or group has claimed responsibility but family members of the shopkeeper said a militant faction identified as Kangleipak Communist Party-Nongdrenkhomba (KCP-N) had earlier demanded Rs three lakh from the owner.
The police later defused the explosive.
