The mob set the shop belonging to Dr. Anuj Kumar Sinha and his brother Palesh Kumar ablaze gutting three tractors and threw stones at a school owned by them in New Town area, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Sadar, Akhtar Sahriyar said.
Reinforcements were sent when the mob attacked policemen with stones forcing them to retreat.
The policemen then lathi-charged the protestors and restored order, Sahriyar said.
Kumar and his brother, who runs a teachers training college, allegedly raped a 14 year-old girl on the school premises yesterday, Saharyar said.
The policemen were searching for them, he said.
