"Can we happy without money or money without happiness? asked Bose who was in the steel city to share his experiences with parents and students of the Loyola school and Carmel Junior College here.
He suggested that parents should not impose their dreams on their children and instead help them do what they wanted to do and also to avoid comparing their children with others.
He said that parental pressure and the prevailing education system were among reasons for the increasing rate of suicide among students.
While the national average for suicide among students was 11.2 per cent in 2011, it was 13.4 in Jamshedpur.
Altogether 43 students committed suicide in Jamshedpur in 2010, while 39 students took the extreme step last year and the figure was 31 out of 193 till November this year, said Prof Mahavir Ram, Director of NGO 'Jeevan', a suicide prevention centre.
