Only seven per cent liked to communicate with the person next to them on a flight, a latest study carried out by the global airlines' body IATA has shown.

Interestingly, it adds that nearly 75 per cent of these youngsters -- aged between 18 and 24 years -- were active Facebook users with an average of 120 'confirmed friends'.

The "most frustrating" part of air travel for passengers was the queuing time for security screening, with 51 per cent considering ten minutes to be a reasonable time and not more.

The air travellers were also disgusted about removing shoes, belts and other personal effects and, therefore, 73 per cent of those surveyed showed willingness to share personal background information with governments in order to speed up security screening, the Global Passenger Survey 2012 showed.

While 86 per cent were interested in providing an airline with their passport details in advance to allow a smoother journey, 91 per cent were interested in automated immigration border gates for a faster arrival processing. An overall majority (77 per cent) were comfortable using biometrics for airport processes.

Nearly all air travellers (98 per cent) considered pro- active notification about flights a good idea, with 66 per cent preferring a mobile text message. Most of them (93 per cent) favoured dedicated security lanes for families, the IATA survey, released to the global media here, showed.

Nearly 3,000 respondents from over 110 countries who travelled in the past 12 months were surveyed in June. The respondents were North Americans (17 per cent), Europeans (36 per cent), Asia-Pacific (17 per cent), South Americans (21 per cent) and Middle East and Africa (nine per cent). (More)
