"The entire Garo Hills has come to a standstill and government employees are not in their offices," Leader of Opposition and NCP leader Conrad K Sangma told reporters here.
He said, "If this continues, people who live from hand to mouth will be hit the hardest."
Conrad, the youngest son of former Lok Sabha Speaker P A Sangma, said "as a responsible government, it should take initiatives so that the situation is brought back to normal."
Terming the reward offered by the the police for GNLA chief Sohan D Shira as 'provocative bait', Conrad said, "It is not right. There are better ways to do it. Simply challenging the GNLA and putting a price tag on their head won't solve the problem," Conrad said.
Criticising the rehabilitation package offered by the government to the surrendered GNLA, Conrad said, "So far only six surrendered cadres have received the Rs 1.5 lakh rehab package. The rest are on the run."
The GNLA has called the bandh demanding halt to counter-insurgency operations against them in the Garo hills.
