The apex human rights panel also directed the SP to submit an action taken report within a month.

The directive came after Sarbeswar Behura of Saroi village moved the commission on December 23 seeking its intervention alleging that the local police did not take any action on his written complaint.

Behura said that a group of anti-socials at the behest of local mining mafia threatened him at his house at Jaraka last month.

He subsequently filed a FIR with the Dharmasala police station apprehending danger to his life.

The miscreants then pulled down the boundary wall of his ancestral house at Saroi village and set fire to five hay stacks, he said.

He met the SP of Jajpur, but he also did not do anything, the complainant stated in a petition to the NHRC.

He then moved the rights panel after being unable to get justice, Behura said.
